Ever wonder how the hymns are chosen for each Sunday?
In the hymnal on pages 804 and 831 you will find a list of suggested hymns for each Sunday for Morning Prayer, The Holy Communion and Evening Prayer. We use the hymns from the list for Morning Prayer or Holy Communion. The suggested hymns usually have a tie-in with the Gospel reading.
Once in a while, a substitution is made if there aren't enough familiar hymns for the day. For example, only one of the hymns suggested for Easter III was familiar.
Also, we try to use march time (2 or 4 beats to a measure) for the Processional and Recessional Hymns.
If you have a favorite hymn, please let Sandy know so that it can be included either on a day suggested for it or one of those Sundays when a substitute hymn is needed.
